Ok, just a note to let everyone out there know I'm still alive.
I handed in the final term paper for the Gothic Properties module on Wed and did my research topic presentation on Fri, and so now I have a slightly smaller burden off my back (because there is still the HUGE Cultural Studies paper due at the end of this month).
But I took some time off on Thurs night to catch the much-anticipated W!ld Rice production of Oscar Wilde's (haha) classic play The Importance of Being Earnest with Diana. I think the directorial decision to have an all-male cast dressed in suits was an interesting one that led to new insights about gender, and wasn't just making a point about how Wilde was gay (although this is important too).
The actors had impeccable articulation and comic timing, the set design was minimal but cleverly done, the live music accompaniment by Tang Quartet was impressive, and Ivan Heng as Lady Bracknell was absolutely divine. The whole audience literally gasped with excitement when he sashayed onto stage in that beautiful bright red frock coat. I really wish I could get Frederic Lee to make suits like that for me...
I also managed to satisfy my cake cravings with yummy blackforest cake when I had dinner at tcc before the play. I've had lots of fun over these past few days, but tomorrow it's time to get back to work again.
