Last Friday, I visited the Singapore Biennale 2008 exhibitions at City Hall and South Beach Development (opposite Raffles Hotel), which was formerly the headquarters of the Singapore Volunteer Forces and a one-time army camp.
I started off from City Hall MRT at about 2pm and my journey of "wonder" was completed by evening without any major hiccups (apart from .quot;wandering" around the area trying to find the Raffles Hotel for 45 minutes =___=;).
It was fascinating to see how the historic buildings of City Hall and the really old and dilapidated compound of the Beach Road camp were transformed into spaces for the exhibition of cutting-edge contemporary visual art. Although I was at a loss as to the meanings of some of the more conceptual pieces, it was nonetheless enjoyable to pick my way through the artworks slowly, ruminate over their possible interpretations and be amazed and challenged by their weird and wacky (and often disturbing) quality.
I have taken some photographs of particular works which made an impact on me, and have uploaded them onto my facebook page. I have made access to this album open to the public, so you can view the photos here if you're on fb as well: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=44517&id=513057478
