the space between words

I was checking my email this morning when I came across this quiz in a bimbo online newsletter called "ShoppingLifestyle" which I have been receiving for some time but have absolutely no recollection of how I came to be in their ML in the first place. Anyway, in true bimbo fashion, this quiz is titled "How Well Do You Understand Guys?", and since I was kind of bored, I decided to give it a try just for fun.

And surprise surprise, this was my result:

"You're a great guy reader

You're so good at figuring guys that you could've gotten a PhD in male psychology! Case in point: Your guy looks bothered, but then says "I'm fine" when you ask him what's wrong. You know better than to push him for details. All he wants at this point is time alone so he can sort things out by himself.

You're also a natural expert when it comes to deciphering a guy's body language. For example, you can sense that the hunk who's giving you a smirk-like smile isn't really being sincere with you, and likely just wants a no-strings-attached fling. You can also pick out subtle signs that he's crushing on you, such as when your date mirrors your posture, keeps his upper body squarely facing you throughout the conversation and starts stroking his glass.

'It's all about giving his hands something to do while his mind races through the possibilities of activities in which they would be otherwise better engaged,' says Lisa Helmanis, author of Master Dating."

This was so ironic it was hilarious. And actually, the result should be changed to "You're a great guy PERSONA reader". Because the quiz was written in words (obviously), and my sensitivity to textual representations of human beings (not just male) is actually a hundred times greater than my sensitivity to the behaviour of real human beings. You can't ask me whether I know that a guy is interested or not when he's stroking his glass, 'cos I wouldn't even have noticed it. So I probably fail as a woman, but at least I have done my Lit teachers proud.

If anyone wants to have a go at this quiz, you can do so at this URL: http://www.shoppinglifestyle.com/quiz/understandguys/
