Our exam results were released on Friday morning and I'm glad to announce that I'm going to graduate on July 10 together with the 2004/2005 Lit Hons cohort. Omedetou to everyone who will be graduating too!

~~~
For this nostalgia trip, I'm going to talk about some of THE MOST unforgettable moments in my life in NUS, involving (who else?) Dr Y... =D
1. The Chicken Wing Incident
When Marianne and I saw Dr Y for the first time when we were in year 2, the first thing that popped into our minds was that we had stepped into an Engin lecture by mistake. At that time he hadn't uploaded a photo of himself on the department webpage, and I wasn't quite prepared for a Lit lecturer to look like that...
But that turned out to be the least surprising of all the things he did in the first EN2111 lecture. I will never forget, not till my dying day, how he stood at the front of the LT and took out a plate with a fried chicken wing on it (yes, a chicken wing) , and said, "Look, I have some lunch here... Did you know that around this chicken wing lies a huge web of complicity in the cruel treatment and killing of animals? =)"
I think the whole class was totally unprepared for that shocker. I later wondered what happened to the chicken wing, which never made a reappearance. Liza guesses that it might have disappeared into the great web of complicity. I think it disappeared into his stomach... =___=;
2. Delicious irony
This has got to be one of the funniest moments in all the classes I have taken in my life. Dr Y was gushing about the revelation of the legendary Kurtz's true nature in the last part of Heart of Darkness, and he said, "Let us take a moment to savour the delicious irony." And just at this moment, Diana was raising a spoonful of her lunch to her mouth. XD
I remember thinking at that time, "What's with the food imagery?" Three years down the road, I have since realized that Dr Y is pretty big on food imagery... But I still have my doubts whether irony is really "delicious"...
This memorable quotation has become a huge running joke between Diana and I for the past three years, providing us with uncountable hours of mirth and amusement.
3. "The horror, the horror!"
This was definitely one of the catch-phrases of the semester, and it has also become one of the longest running jokes between Diana and I (yes, we are pure evil when it comes to making jokes about Dr Y). He kept repeating "The horror, the horror!" over and over again, and then he went on to variations such as "What about the child, the child?" (when referring to Lucy's baby in Disgrace). I wonder why I didn't develop a muscle sprain from cocking my eyebrow at all the weird things he said and did throughout the semester...
But after getting to know Dr Y more over these past few years, I've come to realize he isn't just a really weird lecturer (though this certainly doesn't mean he isn't really weird). More on this next time =)
