the space between words

I went on a shopping spree in Orchard today and bought quite a lot of stuff (but nothing compared to what Jas is capable of). Hooray for retail therapy.

Although it's a little soon after the previous post, I'm going to talk about my two other favourite places in school - the old Arts Canteen and the AS7 lobby.

The Arts Canteen (otherwise known as the Deck, though I have never called it by that name) was renovated about a year ago and is now a two-storey, futuristic white Colosseum perched precariously on the slope of a ridge, and though I must admit it looks a lot better and is much more spacious and airy now, I miss that special cosy feel the old canteen used to have. Sometimes when I was tired of studying in the very cold and rather sterile environment of the library, I would hide myself away in one of the nooks and crannies of the canteen and do my work there. It was a great place for hanging out at for long periods of time, as there wasn't any freezing airconditioning there (and I can take the heat much better than the cold), and the benches were pretty comfortable for lying around in (unlike the stools in the new canteen, which have no backs and are therefore an implicit hint to you to eat your food quickly and vacate the seat for the next customer). I remember spending afternoons in a corner of the old canteen, chatting with friends and bumming around. There was also the very unforgettable (and embarrassing) incident in the first semester of my second year when I burst out crying right in front of the Japanese food stall out of frustration at what I perceived as a friend's callous treatment of me =___=;
But I'm very grateful to PY for generously giving me comforting words and tissue paper =)

Apart from the 3rd floor of the library and the canteen, my other favourite not-so-secret hideout in school is the AS7 lobby. I was introduced to this very cool study area by my senior Shiuan, and thanks to her, I have spent many mornings and afternoons curled up in my little corner between the pillar and the glass windows (and I'm there so often that no one else seems to want to lay claim to it), reading my books and soaking up some vitamin D at the same time. That place is even better than the library in offering solitude, as it is really deserted most of the time, plus I get natural sunlight and greenery without the bugs! And while I have to sit on the hard floor and my butt does begin to hurt after a few hours, it feels good to stretch my legs there after a whole day of classes.

Ok, that's all for tonight. The exam results are going to be released tomorrow morning! Please let me get at least a C+ for that blasted Science GEM and I can graduate without any trouble...
