Yesterday, when I went back to school to hand in my Asia Moderns paper and to collect my assignment (and Minwei's too), I met Diana unexpectedly at the General Office of the Lit department, queueing up with tons of freshmen to collect her TS1101E paper from Dr K K Seet's office.
We had lunch together and then studied for the rest of the afternoon in the library, amongst a whole sea of people mugging away.
And then when we were ready to go home and were walking out of the library, I met one of my seniors who has graduated already. Diana and I were whizzing past her and she was whizzing past us, and when we saw each other we were both momentarily stunned. It turns out she had come all the way back to NUS to accompany her colleague who was here to attend a talk by Gao Xingjian (I didn't even know he was in Singapore!) and to pay her outstanding library fines of a grand total of $1.00. The library even sent her a letter telling her about the fine. Sheesh.
'Cos she was in a rush (and screwing up the fines payment machine as a result) and I was in a rush too ('cos I wanted to catch up with Diana), we didn't get to talk much, but I told her I got Dr Y for my HT supervisor. And she actually misinterpreted my gushing enthusiasm as a sign of being pissed off. =____=;
Anyway, she told me to send her regards to Dr Y, who apparently still remembers her and even knows she went to Japan, which I had absolutely no idea of!! His memory is pretty amazing, despite what he says to the contrary, and he really does take an active interest in his students' lives.
The point of this whole post actually is this: It's really nice to meet good friends in school unexpectedly, especially after a long period of studying at home alone. We all need to emerge out of our hermit crab shells once in a while =)
