the space between words

Yesterday, my friend Jan and I went back to AJ to visit our teachers. It was supposed to be a class outing, but due to various circumstances, only the two of us managed to turn up... =___=;

It was pretty fun to see our form teacher Mr Tan again. PY said that I would probably need some time to readjust to him after being used to Dr Y for so long (ahem, they DO NOT have an uncanny resemblance, PY, maybe except for the voice), but he was as friendly as usual and surprisingly, we could have a rather open conversation that would not have been quite possible if we were still students of his.

Jan and I also had a very long chat with one of our former Lit teachers, who was actually from the same cohort as Dr Robin L when they were both studying in NUS! According to her, Dr L was one of the most avant-garde dressers in her batch, and apparently the most daring thing he did was to wear a pair of red shoes to class. Times have changed indeed.

We were actually supposed to have dinner with Mr Tan, but he decided not to join us because he was too busy. I wanted to throttle him at that point in time because PY and I changed the original outing date from Wed to Thur precisely because he said he could have dinner with us on Thur, and then most of our classmates could not make it because of the change in date. So in the end, we sped off to Orchard in Jan's car and had dinner with Doreen, another one of our JC classmates.

Even though there were only three of us, we spent many hours chatting and catching up with one another all the way up to 11pm at night. I think I talked a bit too much about Lit texts and theories, which I must admit is a very annoying occupational hazard of mine, but it was such a long time since I had such an invigorating intellectual discussion. It was also great to hear that Jan was getting along fine in Law (and so you guys now know that you ought not to mess with me!) and that Doreen would be graduating in one year's time too without any hiccups.

We have another outing planned for the Maths students with our beloved Mr Maths Tan and yet another one for both Mr Tans and the whole class in August, when Poh Lin returns from the hallowed halls of Princeton for a visit. Although most of us highly disliked our time in AJ, it's great that most of us didn't transfer our dislike of the school to the class and to the teachers (ok, some of them) and that we can still meet up years later and reminisce about the crazy times we had together in JC. And if you know our class 36/02, they were really crazy times indeed.
