I've just finished typing out my time table for the vacation and I've realized that yet again I want to do tons of things and I don't have enough time to do them all!
1. I'm preparing for my HT so this summer vacation is dedicated to MODERNIST LITERATURE. I plan to read at least 3 works by Woolf, some Kafka, some Beckett, some Akutagawa and Murakami (ok, he's not exactly modernist, I suppose), and ULYSSES BY JAMES JOYCE. Yes, you heard right. Let's see if I emerge in one piece at the end of the hols.
2. I also plan to complement the literary texts with 1 crit theory reading a week. I can hear Minwei calling me "PSYCHO!!!" in the background already but crit theory is really challenging and interesting and productive. Honestly! *darts from arrows shot by HP*
3. I'm going for my long-awaited trip to Tokyo from 22 May to 28 May! My family and I will be touring Ikebukuro (OTOME ROAD!!!), Harajuku (COSPLAYERSSSS!!!) and the usual tourist attractions like Mt Fuji, Asakusa Kannon Temple, Tokyo Tower and Odaiba. I plan to lug back excess luggage full of clothes, manga, doujinshi, CDs and snacks. Hopefully I can find the elusive Dekkai Pucca there. It's a Pucca as big as your fist and it doesn't seem to be sold in S'pore anymore... My sis and I also intend to visit a cafe in Ikebukuro called B: Lily Rose, where the female "garcons" dress up as guys and do BL stuff. And no guys are allowed in the cafe after 6pm! ^^
The two of us had wanted to go for a live as well, but it turns out that most of the bands we like are not having lives in the week that we'll be there. Most of them are going off to LA for the J-rock Revolution Festival on 25 and 26 May and coming back only in June for the AREA 10th Anniversary live. Damn Hollywood and its financial prowess. Boo. Well, there are still many cheaper, small lives featuring indies bands (I didn't spell that wrong; indie is used in the plural form in Japan) and we might discover some talented band that no one knows about, but the risk that we spend money on lousy bands is also pretty high.
4. And because we'll be going to Japan, I need to put myself through an intensive 2-week revision course to brush up on my Japanese, which has gotten pretty rusty by this time. My whole family is depending on me to translate... ><
5. And because I intend to bring back lots of manga and doujinshi from Tokyo, I'll have plenty of Japanese-language material to read for the rest of the year (considering my extremely slow pace of reading). I also want to finish Angel Sanctuary (which is one of the best manga I have ever read!) and try out other series like Vagabond and Paradise Kiss and Nodame Cantabile(yeah, I know my tastes are weird)...
6. I'm also doing something else I've wanted to do for a long time - get a tablet! The Wacom Graphire 4 Classic XL pen tablet looks extremely enticing but it also costs an extremely mind-boggling 200 Euros, so it appears I have to settle for the Genius Mouse Pen Tablet from Taiwan. I've tried out Qianhao's Genius tablet before and well, since I'm not much of a pro, it should suit my purposes and my wallet fine. Particularly since I'll be broke after my trip to Japan.
7. AND I want to go to interesting cafes and restaurants with my friends (I really am going to be broke). PY, Diana, Minwei and I are going to this secretive little cafe tucked in a corner of Taka for brunch in two weeks time - YAY!
So there's my Jack-of-all-trades tendency for you. This hol is going to be fun! I feel the thrill of excitement already.
