"I can't go on, I'll go on."
The famous line from Beckett's The Unnamable. And it quite adequately describes what I feel right now, trying to discuss my JS presentation and Graphite with 7 different windows open on MSN.
I haven't even finished that thick novel I set myself for the Crit Theory paper, and I've renewed the bloody book twice. Lesson to self: never set yourself something you know you have trouble finishing when you don't have to. And all because I wanted to try something new and do a New Historicist reading of Natsume Souseki's I Am A Cat. (No allusion to Saussurian structuralism and enunciative modalities intended when I chose this text)
This constant desire to try something new might be the bane of my life. It's turning me into a Jack of all trades and a master of none. But then again, as Estragon says in Waiting for Godot, we always find something to do. And by always striving to do something new, I may be trying to protect myself from falling into the never-ending cycle of senseless repetition and nothingness. Make it an event, as my Prof would say. (Although I can't say that painting my nails in alternating colours of black and purple constitutes an event...)
Anyway, back to more prosaic matters. I watched a production of Waiting for Godot in Tragedy lecture today. It was wonderful. Superb. So funny and yet so melancholic. Pity most people in the class were fidgeting non-stop and walking in and out and eating stuff out of rustling plastic bags and smsing away on their handphones. Beckett must be watched in absolute silence! >_<
I really can't stand people who interfere with others' enjoyment of the play/film when they can't understand what's going on. There was this really annoying guy sitting beside me when I was watching Goodbye Dragon's Inn with Kevin earlier this semester during the FilmArt lecture. He was giving a running commentary on how there was no plot, no continuity editing and expressing constant frustration in the most obnoxious manner at the long takes of silence and stillness. I honestly felt like punching that guy's face in. Ok, no more ranting.
Photos of the recent Uzumaki event should be uploaded once they have been uploaded on the club website. So look out for them! The Uzumaki mascot is really cute.
