Have been watching J-rock PVs on youtube all morning.

It seems like I've not been keeping up with developments in the J-rock scene at all during the past semester.

Watched the parody version of Diru's latest single "Agitated Screams of Maggots". I thought that Diru was getting better after the disaster of "Clever Sleazoid" with "Ryoujoku no Ame" but "Maggots" marks the departure of Diru past the point of no return. I know some fans like Diru's new erm, German heavy metal style (?) but to me, it's all a lot of noise and senseless screaming. Kyo's Engrish is beyond comprehension and his incessant screaming drowns out whatever 'technique' the other band members are exhibiting (if they are). Give me old-school Diru any day.

Then I went on to kagrra,. Got quite a shock when I saw their image for "Utakata" and "Sakebi". They have stopped wearing elaborate kimonos some time ago but now everyone is sans make-up and dyed hair! All of them now actually look more like guys, which is highly disturbing. Especially in the case of Shin, who looks really weird without his signature thick eyeliner. But Shin playing the guzheng in the PV is pretty cool.

Checked up on Gazette as well. Their single "Filth in the Beauty" is very strange. It's got an intro by a female vocalist that sounds more suitable in a BoA song, and then Ruki sort of sings/raps in a high-pitched nasal voice that reminds me of a techno dance track. And their other latest song "Regret" sounds so peppy. Hmm... Gazette going pop?

So many PVs to watch and so little time! >___<
