My exams were finally over yesterday! FREEEEEEDOM!
To celebrate the end of exams (technically, only Sam and I have finished our exams), our SS group (Singapore Studies, not the Nazi stormtroopers) went to The V Tea Room at the Esplanade for afternoon tea.
The V Tea Room is a Victorian-style tea cafe. The interior design is really very pretty, with pastel pink walls, dainty marble-topped tables and matching cream-coloured chairs with rose-patterned cushions, and a counter facade that seems to be made up of old Victorian books! The 5 of us ordered 4 different dishes, including the Chocolate Banana Panflatter, the Rose Petal Earl Gray Tea Cake, the Chocolate Whisky Cake and the store's bestseller, the Bailey's Irish Cream Tea Cake. Every cake had its own distinctive taste and all were very, very delicious. It was a good thing the 5 of us shared all the cakes, as we managed to taste 4 different cakes and spread the cost (the liquer-teacakes, which are the cafe's speciality, are exorbitant at $15 a slice).
I also ordered hibiscus and strawberry tea. The waitress actually came to our table with those wooden tea trolleys laden with tea cups and saucers that you see in the movies and served me with a tea pot and a strainer! Up till then, I had never used a strainer for tea in my life. I didn't even know what it was till Sam told me... =___=" Everything was so dainty I was quite worried I might break something accidentally but thank goodness that didn't happen.
And oh yes, the V Tea Room also sells speciality cookies, including weird flavours like Ikan Bilis and Black Pepper Crab. Pei Qin tried a sample of the latter and said the taste of black pepper crab and chilli really fills your mouth with a small bite. I've not tried any of the strange cookies yet but they are very nicely packaged and make a good and wacky gift idea, hehe.
And that's how I celebrated the end of exams. I seem to have come a long way from the old days when the end of exams meant heading down to eat at Mac's and catching a Hollywood blockbuster movie...
I went shopping at Heeren and Far East with my mom and sister today. It seems like the Singapore fashion industry has been in a state of hibernation since the last time I went shopping in late July this year. I see the same stripes, polka-dots, frilly "Victorian-style" capped-sleeved blouses and tacky gold prints that were in fashion in summer and they are STILL HERE in the autumn/winter season?! I was actually worried about becoming broke this December holiday, what with the V Tea Room outing and Diana wanting to eat at Ma Maison and Jacq wanting to eat at Tanpopo, but it looks like I needn't worry about buying clothes. I'm going to buy only 1 black jacket (if I can find the perfect jacket) and 1 black T-shirt. And then I shall buy lots of unique and good-quality VK clothes when I get to Japan next summer holiday so that I won't end up looking like a clone of the rest of Singapore...
