This is something that I was joking with Yingzhao about during class and I've decided it's worth a try compiling all the quotes from thinkers I know of who talk about subjectivity through revising Descartes' famous words "cogito ergo sum". Here we go...
Rene Descartes: "I think, therefore I am."
Sigmund Freud: "Where It was, there I will come to be."
Jacques Lacan: "I am not, where I am the plaything of my thought; I think about what I am where I do not think I am thinking."
Helene Cixous: "I am there where the It speaks."
With just three words "I", "think", and "It", we have traced the entire development of Western philosophical discourse from humanism to modernism to postmodernism to French feminism. Amazing, isn't it?
