the space between words

Thursday, September 21, 2006

I've just made a new friend who shares the same perspectives and tastes as me. And I mean, to the extent of it being uncanny. I even found her sitting in the corner seat in the canteen that I usually sit at (and I do love corner seats!). Have I met my doppleganger in a lit class in NUS?

Haha, ok, I'm just indulging in my feminine (according to Virginia Woolf) tendency to exaggerate. But it's really quite amazing how this girl feels the same way about brilliant Lit people who are rather nasty to their "inferiors" in class discussions, about balancing "high" art with our need for occasional mindless entertainment, and of course, most strikingly, about one of our lecturers. It rather shocked me to hear the very words I use about our lecturer coming out of the mouth of this girl whom I've just barely met. And she's apparently far more willing to say certain things that I couldn't (or wouldn't). Haha, maybe she's a very honest person and I've got too much conflicted feminist pride and insecurity to admit these things...

But she's really a very nice and friendly and open girl, and I do like her. PY says we can start a fan club now, and interestingly, we would have 3 members in order of seniority: Xuan the 4th-year (sort of), me the 3rd-year and this girl the 2nd-year. Freaky!

And you know what's even more freaky? Bumping into the lecturer in question less than 5 minutes after my lunch with the new girl. I swear he has this uncanny ability to materialize somewhere near me when I least expect it.
