the space between words

My two days of duty at the Matric Fair are over and I can finally take a breather (sort of).

Despite certain unpleasant circumstances, manning the NUS Anime Club booth was great fun this year. Last year, I laughed till I almost cried when Shilei tried to squeeze herself into the defective Kaonashi costume. This year, I definitely enjoyed (perversely, yes, I know) watching Qianhao and Yijiang wear the Chiyo no Otousan costume. Tutu skirts! XD

A few people were able to recognize the costume (surprisingly, Jan was one of them) and some people were pretty violent towards it, poking Qianhao's eyes and stuff like that. But many found the costume cute, weird or just plain freaky. And there were the usual block-headed people who just walked past, oblivious to the yellow cat(?) staring and smiling at everyone in that quintessential Otousan perverse-kind of way. It really takes a true blue anime fan to appreciate our unique brand of humour (or "going off in a tangent and doing our own thing", as Sam puts it).

The rest of us also wore bright yellow paper Otousan-boushi (designed by yours truly and hand-crafted by Ho Wai!) to match the costume. Although Sam thought the hats were way too freaky and the people on duty swore never to wear the hats, we eventually ended up wearing them. And surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly), Adnan gamely put on the hat and put the signboard handle into his jeans (ick) without so much as a word of complaint. He must have just drunk coffee because my sister says that research has shown that coffee makes one more willing to say "yes"...

I'm sure it was quite a sight to see 1 Otousan and 3 people wearing Otousan-boushi prancing around the booth. One girl even eyed the hat I was wearing so enviously that I gave her one of ours... O___o

The best part of my 2 days there was definitely the instance when Yijiang (in the costume) walked to the Mensa booth, turned unwittingly in the direction of a certain booth and waved! The delicious irony was so intense I could have dropped dead laughing on the floor.

Adnan is supposed to be wearing the costume today; in one hour's time, in fact. And I'm sitting here at home missing the spectacle of the century!! T___T

Ok, enough about the Matric Fair now. I've checked CORS and realised, to my great surprise, that I have been preallocated all 3 Lit modules without having to spend a single point on them! So I'll be taking The 2oth Century (yay!), Feminism (which has suffered an inexplicable drastic dip in popularity from last sem) and The Body. And Yijiang and I have just found out we both intend to bid for S'pore Film as well! This sounds like it's going to be a great sem ahead!

And oh yes, I was probably the co-op's first textbook customer yesterday morning at 9am, hee. ^____^
