My search for a job has been quite unsuccessful so far...
I have sent out my resume to SRT, W!LD RICE and The Finger Players in the hope of landing an intern position like Xuan Ling's but I have not received any reply for a week. And no reply means no chances.
I also followed Xuan Ling's 'good' advice and emailed the English Language and Literature Department asking them if there were any positions for undergrad research assistants available. This was supposed to enable me to avoid approaching the lecturers directly. But the ELL Dept went ahead to do the very thing I DID NOT want to do! It forwarded my email to the lecturers... -___-"
And after suffering major embarrassment, I get an email from one of PY's English profs asking me if I have technical skills to deal with websites. As anyone who has scrolled down to the bottom of my blog webpage and seen the link to Brandon's blog amidst the funny jargon knows, my computer skills are close to non-existent. So I'm generously passing the job over to Qianhao.
But I have received a call from one of the other companies I applied for, so I may be able to get at least some money for a 2-week period in June, teaching students English at the Stamford University EPGY holiday camp. However, I haven't gone for the interview yet and I don't think I ought to be too confident about aceing it.
Right now, I just wish some of my English Lit profs would take pity on this poor soul and let me be their research assistant... I don't really mind if the pay is peanuts (for I have worked for $3 an hour before) but it would be really valuable to get first-hand experience of what goes on behind-the-scenes in the world of academia. Then I can decide whether I really want to join them or not in the future.
