Guess who I met yesterday evening coming out of Buona Vista MRT station? My JC form teacher!!!
I was just walking along the path in my usual distracted manner when this deep, baritone voice sounded above my left shoulder: "Hello, Wai Yee". I turned around, saw my ex-form teacher and literally jumped and went "Argghhhh!!!" I don't know why I reacted in such an inarticulate way, but hey, when reality intrudes into your fantasies, language is inadequate to express that shock (my apologies to Lacan for always distorting his theories. I can just hear Dr R intoning "a stupid reading of Lacan would be...").
So he asked me how I was and I said "Erm, fine?" (notice the bad conversation skills once again). Then I went on my way towards the MRT station while he, strangely, walked towards the MOE HQ. Going back to work at 7pm? And he has a car, so what was he doing in the MRT? Strange activities of MOE employees...
But the thing that really amazed me was how I was transported, within a fraction of a second, back 2 years into the past. It was as if nothing had changed from the time he taught me History, when I was still clad in a uniform that looks like an MRT employee's, stoning during morning assembly, taking History 'S' lessons with KR in the empty classroom... He looked no different from 2 years ago, and I apparently don't either, since he recognized me so easily. Ah, how nice it is to indulge in a bit of nostalgia...
On another note, I just realised that my JC form teacher and my Lit lecturer (the one I met on the 96) sound very much alike. I know PY has been telling me that they resemble each other but I still think they don't look alike. One is taller and erm, *bigger* (please don't misunderstand this!!) and erm, older. But they do sound alike and they address me in a very similar manner. Weird...
