Ah~ back from the Japanese Studies' Society BBQ at Aloha Loyang.
The BBQ was a little boring, most probably because I hardly knew anyone there except for the few people I have spoken to during the few times I have turned up for J-Music Circle sessions. If I don't remember wrongly, I turned up for a total of four sessions over the past semester. I remember going for the first session where Shao introduced Laruku, the Kagrra concert screening and the two Diru sessions. The Diru sessions were a must for me even though they were quite close to the exams because I am a Diru fan!
Speaking of Diru, I have finally bought the latest Diru album Withering to Death. Actually, my mom bought it for me as a reward for getting good results this past semester. The album was actually released early last year and I have been waiting till now to get a listen. Unfortunately, I now have this rather unpleasant feeling that it isn't quite worth the $73 my mom paid for it. Now, I love Diru because they are always daring to experiment with new genres, and most of the time, they do well at whatever they try their hands at (that is, if we excuse the not-so-good Saku and the godawful Clever Sleazoid). But Diru has evolved tremendously over the years to become something of a nu-metal band now. Although the songs in Withering are still enjoyable and still much better than oshare stuff (at least, to me), I really miss the wilder, edgier days of Diru when they played such great songs like Cage and Filth. Nu-metal is not exactly my cup of tea... and it makes me sad that I can't support Diru as much as I used to from now on. But I hope they are happier now that they are $73 richer... maybe they will use the money to go buy more food? ^____^
School is starting next Monday and once again, it's the start of another semester! I'll be studying three 3000-level Lit modules - Shakespeare, Singapore Lit and Lit & Psychoanalysis. Bidding for this semester has been a horrendous affair. Bid points were skyrocketing and I got so stressed that I suffered from insomnia and tongue ulcers... =___=
But now I can rest well with all my modules safely under my belt. Oh yeah, and I know I have been extremely tardy in writing that Nana movie review I promised. I think I'll get around to it on Sunday...
And now that almost everything is settled for the next term, I should make some New Year resolutions. I resolve: 1) To read my lit texts faster, study harder and reduce procrastination 2) To devote myself more fully to the Anime Club 3) To sleep more regular hours at night and no naps in the afternoon 4) To improve my Japanese language abilities 5) To exercise more self-control over mind and mouth 6) To exercise more 7) To understand others better
