the space between words

My sister has just made a coin purse all by herself this morning, and now she can't stop gushing about it. She even logged into the computer just so that she could blog about it -___-"

Well, I won't be writing about any coin purses here. I've just returned from a lunch gathering I had with some of my JC friends from the great class of 36/02! I had reserved a table at Swensen's for ten people but in the end, only half the number turned up. Doreen was too far away at Bedok to be able to rush over to TPY in time, Peiyong was sick and had to rest at home, Van overslept because of cheerleading practice last night (I'm still extremely surprised that she's a cheerleader... must have read too many Sweet Valley High novels and gotten a stereotypical impression of cheerleaders as a result) and Joanne decided not to come because details were not confirmed with her last night. Now that is really my fault, and while it seems impossible to have missed out her name as I was running down the list yesterday, I suppose I did miss out sending an sms to her in the end. And the reason why I was so scatter-brained can be found below.

The lunch was pretty fun. We had not seen Huimin for a long time since she left for Australia after JC graduation, and it was nice seeing her again. She looked pretty healthy so I suppose my fears of her over-working herself were unfounded. And everybody still looked pretty much the same; it really seemed as if little had changed since our JC days.

And then there was the really strange phenomenon regarding the glasses at the restaurant. We kept getting into accidents with them. I dipped my fingers into my glass when I was reading the menu, Huimin and Sharon flicked their glasses dangerously as they were gesturing, Jas nearly pushed her glass off the table (I think my heart stopped when I caught the glass at the edge of the table in the nick of time) and KR spilled water onto himself when he was pouring water from one glass to another. And when we asked for more water, the waitress carrying the jug bumped into another waitress. Either the glasses were jinxed or we were.

We talked about a myriad of topics but the restaurant got very noisy and we couldn't hear each other very well. As a result, my conversation with KR, who sat at the further end opposite me, went something along these lines:
KR: So, are you going to publish?
Me: Publish what?
KR: Say what?
Me: Publish what?
KR: What?

We also talked about school, Nicholas, the "body part" chasing after me and my seniors. KR remarked that I seem very close to my seniors and asked me what they were like. I was thinking of Adnan specifically and to my amazement, I found I could not describe Adnan at all. The only word that came to my mind at that time was "weird". And Adnan isn't exactly Curren-weird, or Daryl Tan-weird, or Kelvin Leung-weird (that's as far off the mark as it can get). He's just... uncategorizable. One day I shall flex my literary muscle and attempt a character sketch of Adnan, haha.

I received my results for the past semester yesterday and since then I have been very, very happy! The rise in CAP is really welcome (especially considering how it's going to drop next semester when I take four 3000-level Lit modules) but the really nice, long-awaited email from Dr Yeoh was the icing on top of the cake. Or the cherry on top of the ice-cream, considering how I don't like icing on top of my cake...

Whee... I am really on an emotional roller-coaster. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I'm abandoned by my parents for a friend's Christmas dinner! Looks like I will be eating precooked Japanese rice with my sister...
